Raised in Oregon, the artist spent much of her childhood roaming in the rural outskirts of Oregon City - admiring and sketching varied animals and landscapes on pen and paper (and, as entertainment for friends and family, on an ETCH-A-SKETCH® she received as a gift from her parents at the age of 10). Being very active with school, sports and church, however, she did not seriously pursue her artistic abilities (beyond illustrating the school yearbook, church cookbook, or designing a friend’s wedding invitations, etc.) until after she married and raised her own children, now young adults.
Mrs. Hemming has exhibited in the Del Mar Art Faire of San Clemente, California, and has two exhibits showing currently within the rapidly growing art scene of Oregon City. Her unique work is displayed in the “Art In Windows” program, as featured artist with Coffee Rush Café in historic Oregon City, as well as in the Three Rivers Art Guild Gallery across from City Hall. (See the Current Exhibits section of this website for more details.) Guests are invited to explore both exhibits, as no two pieces of artwork are the same. In fact, each EtchArt drawing is only available in its original form and is a “1 of 1” – in other words, there are no reprints or reproductions, which makes them highly collectable.
Regarding her recent membership with the Three Rivers Artist Guild, she shares:
“I’m thrilled to be part of an amazingly talented, fun group of artists, and to be re-exploring my own creative abilities again. I’m also eager to learn, and to try different things. We live in such an inspiringly beautiful area that sometimes I feel flooded with images and ideas just waiting to get out and onto canvas, or... [laughingly] … into an Etch-A-Sketch!”
